Our good friends at Riddim Wise sent us this beautiful reggae/dubstep remix of Poirier's haunted and haunting kreyol song with Nik Myo off his 2007 album No Ground Under. Riddim Wise is one of the most listened reggae radio show in Montreal if not the most listened to. It's broadcasted just after the second broadcast of Masala on sunday afternoon on CISM (the name of the radio station hence our blog name). Nos bons amis de Riddim Wise nous ont envoyé ce magnifique remix reggae/dubstep de Mangnen L'boulé de Poirier. Un morceau hanté et hantant, chanté en Creole par Nik Myo, tiré de l'album No Ground Under sorti sur Ninja Tune en 2007. Riddim Wise est l'une des émissions de radio dédiée au reggae la plus écoutée au Québec, si ce n'est la plus écoutée. L'émission est diffusée juste après la rediffusion de Masala les dimanche après-midi de 16h à 18h, sur les ondes de CISM (c'est le nom de la radio, d'où le nom de notre blog). Yeah Masala is on holidays, so we're late on this. MJ actually went Zombi the day I left for France for 10 days. I did spot that Mochipet version a while ago on his myspace. Thought it could be a decent thanks, farewell good bye on this day of concert celebration.

Schlachthofbronx - We Nah Fraid

Based in Munich, Schlachthofbronx are on the point when it comes to bass electro, and it creates some especially great results when they're adding Dancehall lyrics on top of it. Listen to that track We Nah Fraid where dubstep beats encounters electro, half tempo beats and coupé-décalé ish beats. Really cool variations. I also really like their remix of a Bavarian Marching band that you can listen on their myspace. That track should be released soon so keep on eye on this guys. They sent me the track, so I would just like to say you can do the same! If I like the music, I'll post it here or will play it on the radio show.

Oh and before I forget, go visit Seen's blog, that's where you'll find the other german gems. Ex-CyanWait's Tim Turbo lives there now!

Genders, Bassline, Grime & Dubstep

I'm always reluctant to dichotomized simplification and quite frankly haven't been to the UK for a long long time, so skepticism is basically what I feel when I read this article: "BASSLINE HOUSE AND THE RETURN OF 'FEMININE PRESSURE'". The biologisation of music tastes (metaphoric or not?) is actually also pretty ridiculous. But on the other hand, from what I see here in Montreal, Dubstep is a mostly male movement, just like the DJ world in general. So what's your call? Bassline House = female VS Grime/Dubstep = Male ?

Edit: Actually, attributing male or female "qualities" to an object is something humans are doing all over the planet all the time. Sex is one of the most classic bipolar classification that human beings are using to put order in the world. And ether or not it's a metaphoric use here, doesn't really change anything. The main idea of this article is based on that very common classification and I'm not sure it actually says anything but the conclusions that are embedded in the use of that dichotomy.

Deuxième mix réenregistrer d'une traite dimanche dernier et pas mal différent de mon mix pour Bounce Le Gros. J'avais préparé ce mix plus orienté Bass pour la soirée de jeudi dernier au Saphir. Avec un début pas mal varié (bhangra, dancehall, Bmore), je passe ensuite d'une série Mickael Jackson à une série Sleng Teng, le tout soutenu par des touches de jungle. Ensuite voici ma tentative de mixer ensemble ce que je considére être une sorte d'ensemble de Bass/booty internationale: dubstep, dancehall, booty techno, kuduro, grime, Baile Funk et Miami Bass (avec un focus sur le kuduro). Il y a comme un fil rouge dans toutes ces musiques que j'ai essayé de faire ressortir dans ce mix.

Here's the second mix I recorded last sunday in one shot and it's quite different from my mix for Bounce Le Gros. I prepared that mix for the thursday mix series at a bar in Montreal called Saphir. It starts with a pretty diverse selection (bhangra, dancehall, Bmore), then move to a Mickael Jackson series and a Sleng Teng series, all of that with a bit of jungle. Then here's my attempt to mix what I consider as a whole, the whole of international Bass/booty music: dubstep, dancehall, booty techno, kuduro, grime, Baile Funk et Miami Bass (with a focus on kuduro). There's like a underground link between in all this musics that I tried to bring up in this mix.
