Ms Dynamite - Bad Gyal

Ms Dynamite and Sticky's killer single "Bad Gyal", that we've been playing a lot on the radio show and during our dj sets over the last few months, just leaked through here and there. She also just put up an awesome new track on her myspace that heatwave ripped and shared a few days back here and they put up a video where she sings over a DJ Zinc tune (see video below and download Zinc's Killa sound). We definitely can't wait for that new album to drop!!!

Schlachthofbronx - We Nah Fraid

Based in Munich, Schlachthofbronx are on the point when it comes to bass electro, and it creates some especially great results when they're adding Dancehall lyrics on top of it. Listen to that track We Nah Fraid where dubstep beats encounters electro, half tempo beats and coupé-décalé ish beats. Really cool variations. I also really like their remix of a Bavarian Marching band that you can listen on their myspace. That track should be released soon so keep on eye on this guys. They sent me the track, so I would just like to say you can do the same! If I like the music, I'll post it here or will play it on the radio show.

Chili Electronique - El Pueblo Unido....

Je suis arrivé à Rio il y a quelques jours et après des visites intensives des plages de Copacabana et d'Ipanema, je me dis qu'il est peut-être temps que je commence à partager mes découvertes musicales faites au Chili.

3 semaines au Chili à beaucoup marcher dans les rues de Santiago, passer du temps aves les différentes membres de la famille de ma copine et faire un voyage dans le nord du pays dans le désert d'Atacama. Aprés 3 semaines, j'ose penser pouvoir dire que ce qui s'entend dans la rue en terme de musique se diviserait en 6 groupes plus ou moins égal (sans ordre donc):
1/ Cumbia
2/ Salsa et Merrengue
3/ Reggaetton
4/ Variété Chilienne
5/ Variété US et musique US en général
6/ Musique Andine ou "folklorique"

Voilà pour l'aperçu général (oui je sais c'est court). Rentrons à présent dans l'anecdote. Mon passage au Chili coincidait avec le sommet ibéro-américain, réunissant l'Espagne avec ses anciennes colonies d'Amérique Latine (même si le Brésil était de la partie), dans une forme de réunion d'influence du monde hispanophone. Le forum s'est terminé sur une grosse polémique entre Chavez, Zapatero et le roi Juan Carlos qui a même perdu les nerfs en quittant la salle. Je rentre pas dans les détails, bref aperçu des mots qui fachent dans la vidéo ci-dessous et le texte ici:

Le jour d'après, Hugo Chavez se réunissait avec ses proches du camp anti-inmpérialiste, le président de la Bolivie Evo Morales et le commandante du Nicaragua Daniel Ortega, pour un sommet alternatif, un Cumbre de Los Pueblos, qui n'aurait apparement rassemblé qu'un maigre 4000 personnes, dans un Santiago qui compte près de 3 millions. Il y avait tout de même de belles photos dans le journal que je n'arrive malheureusement pas à retrouver sur le net. Toujours est-il qu'un homonyme du Daniel Ortega, Sergio Ortega, est samplé dans le morceau que je souhaite partager. Un titre de Sokio, qui est paru sur une compilation anniversaire du label de musique électronique Chilien du nom de Pueblo Nuevo. Ca prend un petit peu de temps avant de se lancer, mais écoutez c'est un morceau trés intéressant. Oui je sais c'était tordu. A bientôt.

Daddy Yankee New Album WTF ?!?

You might have heard the first single "Impacto" from Daddy Yankee's new album El Cartel due on June 5th. And you might have said to yourself, damn that's some unusual electro sound for a reggaeton track. Vocoder and acid sounds in a reggae track? Well it's only the beginning my friends!

El Cartel is a very solid album of 21 tracks, different styles hip-hop, reggaeton, dancehallish, salsaton, ballads, arena tracks. But the main thing about this album, is that it's really bringing reggaeton to a point of natural junction with mainstream american music. Using electroish production make the Dem Bow beat even more accessible to non-latin audiences. It's like TI was adapting "My Love" to the different aspects of the style. Or a ravy version of reggaeton, which of course might appeal to the hipsters that are into fluo and "rave" sound (haters everywhere). Like on that track for example:

But the track which really blow me away is a FUCKING REGGAETON-HOUSE TRACK !!! I mean wtf??? I know Pitbull is already in the place doing that kind of things, but that song is actually something different. It's not using clichés of Dirty South sound production and it sounds more like if a NYC house producer was collaborating with Daddy Yankee. But ain't no Joe Claussell here and the song is in fact, a collaboration with one of the Black Eyed Peas guys! I find the result of that obvious move towards white audience and commercial radio really interesting and wonder what will be the reactions.

Daft Punk Essential Mix 1997

Thanks to my man Vamonos, who's running GhettoBassQuake, a cross-atlantic kindred of Masala, I put my hand on the HOUSE mix that changed a LOT of things in my personnal path in music. Daft Punk's essential mix is basicly my first love for electronic music. And we all know the feelings and the memories of your first love right? After hearing that mix hundred times on K7 in 1997, I spent 4 years listening to all kinds of house music and electronic music, started djing and promoting dj nights. Something i'm still doing right now. Thanks to Thomas and Guy-Manuel!

Grâce à l'ami Vamonos, de GhettoBassQuake, un frère d'armes d'outre-atlantique, j'ai mis la main sur le mix HOUSE qui a changé BEAUCOUP de chose dans mon voyage personel dans la musique. Le mix de Daft Punk's pour la série "essential" est tout simplement mon premier amour pour la musique électronique. Et on se souvient tous des souvenirs et des émotions pour notre premier amour hein? Après avoir écouté ce mix des centaines de fois sur cassette en 1997, j'ai passé 4 ans à écouter toutes sortes de musiques électroniques et de house, j'ai commencé à mixer et à organiser des soirées dj. Ce que je continue à faire maintenant. Merci à Thomas et Guy-Manuel!
