Ce vendredi, au club Lambi, Masala Sono fait une édition toute spéciale afin d'amasser des fonds pour le formidable organisme Kay Fanm, une maison de femmes au coeur de Port-au-Prince qui à été lourdement touché par le tremblement de terre. Venez danser et bouger pour une bonne cause!

Au programme, les prestations des djs et artistes dont Mr. Ok, Freeworm, Lunice, Riddimwise, Face-T, Nik Myo, nOula, Dramane Koné et Black Out Sound, La soirée se terminera aux rythmes de Carnaval

avec les djs de Masala. VJ par Chocobeets.

En hommage à la militante féministe et membre fondatrice du Kay Fanm, Magalie Marcelin, décédée lors du séisme.

Il n'y a pas mieux que la joie un peu triste de la musique haitïenne pour évoquer le chemin à prendre vers la reconstruction après le drame terrible qui a eu lieu hier à Port-Au-Prince, Haïti. Pour ceux qui n'iront pas aider directement sur place, il y a peu de choses à faire, à part donner un peu d'argent à des organismes reconnus, susceptibles d'en tirer le meilleur. C'est pourquoi, à MASALA, on vous dirige vers le site de la Croix Rouge Canadienne et on envoie, à notre manière, nos pensées et notre fraternité aux gens de la perle des Antilles.

There's no better way than the joyful (yet a bit sad) music of Haiti to suggest the path that leads to reconstruction after the terrible events that happened yesterday in Port-Au-Prince. For those who won't go there to help, there's only a few options left, one of them being to give money to recognized NGOs that will use it in the best manner. This is why, at MASALA, we suggest that you donate to your local Red Cross organization and we also send our thoughts and fraternity to the people of 'La Perle des Antilles' by sharing some of their music with you.

Cet événement tragique arrive aussi au moment où deux d'entre-nous (Etienne et Benoit) s'apprêtaient à partir pour Haiti pour suivre le carnaval. Benoit a d'ailleurs consacré le début de la dernière émission aux nouveautés en provenance de l'île.

Haiti Hip-Hop Crunk. ECP report

Last year we did a podcast (yeah I know we're due for another one) on Haitian Hip-Hop showcasing different talents of the up and coming rap scene of the island. Our good friend Etienne Coté-Paluck is familiar with Haiti and has been going there almost every year for the last 10 years. If you're a Masala regular you might also have listen to Etienne's last Masala participation a few month ago.

Etienne just posted 2 podcast from his last trip in April on his website Shuffle. The second one focus on hip-hop while the first one is a copy of a very entertaining mix Etienne did at a local radio station. [Podshuffle 82] [Podshuffle 81]. Talking about Barikad Crew, Etienne sent us an email a couple weeks ago, the same day we learned about Pitti passing away, announcing the terrible news that 5 members of the Crew died in a car accident. BC is definitely one of the biggest name in Haiti's Hip-Hop scene so you can imagine what a choc it was for people there. A 10 min reportage on TV. Press 1 and 2. Here's a heavily kompa influenced track from Barikad Crew. Pretty different from the Crunk rap they usually do.

Avec Welcome to Haïti: Creole 101, Wyclef Jean ouvrait la porte au hip hop haïtien et à d'autres genres comme le konpa, rara et dancehall de l'île et des West Indyz à un public plus large. À Montréal, le hip hop kreyol on connaît depuis 98 avec les classiques de Muzion et Sans Pression et maintenant avec La Dynastie des Morniers.

Ce sixième Masala To Go présente du nouveau son urbain haïtien et montréalais et des versions kreyol de grosses bombes rap américaines. Désolé pour le son pourri, on aimerait trouver du hip-hop haitien plus facilement que de ripper le son de myspace...

"The ghetto, it's us that have"

With his Welcome To Haïti: Creole 101, Wyclef Jean have open the door for haitian hip hop and other music like konpa, rara and dancehall from the island and the West Indyz. In Montreal, we have artists like Muzion, Sans Pression, La Dynastie des Morniers, ... who are doing kreyol hip hop since 98.

This 6th Masala To Go present new urban sound from Haïti and Montreal. Sorry for the bad sound, we would like to have better version than myspace rip...

Parce que j'ai apprécié le post de JP ci-dessous et que lui et moi allons passer de la musique dans une fête haitienne ce soir, voici une découverte youtube. Sur le dit site il est écrit comme présentation:

"A carnival music video by Haitian young rap band Familia Click. Every year, at the carnival season, all the music bands compete to make the best carnival song.
